Aerating Your Lawn
Lawn aeration is mainly done when soil is compacted, preventing the roots from being nourished. Aeration involves perforating the soil with small holes. These holes allow the grass roots to better receive water, air, and nutrients, helping them grow.
When To Aerate Your Lawn
Cutting Edge can aerate your lawn in the Spring or Fall. Aeration is only necessary to do once a year. Springtime will give your lawn an head start before the summer heat. It’s always beneficial to over-seed in the spring along with an aeration. The second-best time to aerate is in the Fall to make sure your grass roots are prepared for the tough Montana winters. Consider having your lawn aerated before or after Spring or Fall Cleanup Service.
You Need To Aerate Your Lawn If:
- If your lawn gets a lot of heavy use from customers or foot traffic. The heavy foot traffic compacts the soil.
- Often times new commercial property and lawns have compact subsoil due to the constant traffic of heavy equipment.
- If your lawn dries out easily or has a spongy feel to it, this can mean your roots aren’t deep enough to pull water and nutrients that are deeper in the soil.
Prepping Your Lawn For Aeration
If you have underground sprinklers, we need you to have the heads flagged prior to aerating. This helps us avoid breaking any sprinkler heads while the aerator is punching and pulling plugs from the ground. It is best if you get the lawn wet before we arrive, or if your sprinkler system is on. we can run each zone to provide the best results.
The aerator we use pulls plugs out of the ground that range 24″ depending on soil compaction and wetness.
